Karen is the President and owner of EdTech Solutions, Inc. in Reading, MA, established in 2002. She is passionate about supporting educators in their efforts to ensure all learners have access to the inclusive strategies, tools, and resources they need for success, independence, and empowerment. She presents both locally and nationally about assistive, inclusive, and educational technologies and is a co-author of the book, Inclusive Learning 365, published by ISTE in 2021.

Karen has assembled an exceptionally skilled team of professionals to meet assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication needs in school districts throughout the Greater Boston area. She is grateful for her amazing colleagues at EdTech Solutions, Inc, who share the same passion and commitment for providing the highest level of service possible and ensuring all learners have access to what they need.

Janice was born and raised in the wilds of Canada. She emigrated to the United States of America shortly after 9/11 but has retained her Canadian accent which is most evident when she talks about going out and about (eh).

Janice embarked upon becoming a speech and language pathologist as a second career after her son received early intervention speech therapy services. She brings the life experience of being a parent who has had to navigate the IEP process first hand. She graduated from Emerson College and has been with Ed Tech Solutions since 2015.

When not being a homebody with her blended family and two wacky dogs, she enjoys traveling far and wide to attend AAC conferences, workshops and training sessions. Janice is a certified TouchChat trainer. Janice has attended trainings for LAMP Words for Life, Unity, TouchChat, Snap Plus Core, PODD, Grid, and Visual Scene display systems. She has attended conferences for ASHA, AzTAP, Closing the Gap, ATIA, and ISAAC. She has participated in market research for AAC devices, beta testing of AAC software, and collaborates with vendors, and developers within the field of AAC to ensure that she is up to date and familiar with the ever changing landscape of AAC.

Mary is grateful to work with many amazing SLP’s, teachers, paras and administrators across 20+ districts in the Boston area. She began her AAC journey during her undergraduate studies at Boston University. She earned her Master’s degree at Northwestern University in 1994. Mary joined the Edtech Solutions team in 2010, after participating in professional development provided by Karen.

Mary freely admits that she reads AAC textbooks, blogs and articles for fun. She has participated in multiple trainings for PODD, LAMP, UNITY, PECS, Proloquo2Go, Grid 3, Snap Core, Visual Scene Displays and literacy for children with complex communication needs. Mary is a certified Touch Chat Trainer. She strongly believes in learning more and doing better; Mary is extremely appreciative to have a brilliant and resourceful mentor, Ellen Kravitz.

If you find Mary alone, you will have the misfortune of listening to her belt-out Springsteen songs. She spends too much time online shopping and sitting on the couch binge-watching Netflix with her husband. She wishes she could play the piano better, get to the gym more, and microchip her adult and teenage children.

Tara has worn many hats in many different schools across Massachusetts over the past 18 years. After earning a degree in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Tara first worked with adults in a mental health setting. Always sensing she was meant to work with children, she began working with students with intensive special needs in both public school and home settings. Through this work, Tara became passionate about helping students become functionally independent, and decided to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Tara returned to college, first becoming a COTA/L and working in this role while pursuing her Masters degree during evenings. While on this path, Tara had a life altering interaction with Madalaine Pugliese who encouraged her to check out Simmons College and the Assistive Technology Masters program. Tara attended the information session and was hooked! She saw the immediate impact technology had on helping people access the world around them, and applied. During her time at Simmons, Tara had the pleasure of studying under Karen Janowski, our fearless leader, and the rest is history! Tara loves the “aha” moments she gets to encounter through her work, and never tires of learning more in the ever changing world of technology.

When she isn’t working, Tara can be found wrangling her three kids, driving them from field to field and rink to rink, drinking too much coffee, and reading, watching or listening to true crime with her husband while her 70 lb. rescue dog snores on her lap.

Erin began her adventures in special education early in college. She started out as a classroom aide at Perkins School for the Blind. From the very first day she walked onto campus, and into her first student’s room, she knew she was meant to do this! Spending those first five years in education at one of the world’s top private schools provided Erin with the foundation for her dream of teaching. From there she worked in both public and private settings and decided to expand her background into the field of Assistive Technology, enrolling in a Master’s Program through Simmons College. Karen was one of her instructors and Karen’s passion for her students was contagious. She had bounds of energy (given it was a 24 hour intensive weekend course). There were no boundaries, only creative avenues to dig deeper and work harder until each student’s needs were met. Erin loved this passion, and within months of graduating, in 2008, after having her first child, she landed herself a job consulting with EdTech Solutions!

When not working, you will almost always find Erin on the sidelines of a soccer field, cheering on her three children. Between club and travel games, the family finds themselves on the road most Saturdays and Sundays. Family time is the most important to her, and she is blessed to live in the same town she grew up in, with both sides of the family nearby. She comes from a family of six, and as that crew has doubled in size, so have all the times they get together and make more memories.

In addition to her teaching degree in Intensive Special Education, Erin holds a Master’s in Education with a focus on Special Assistive Technology Education. Erin is a certified STAGES Math trainer. Accessibility to everyday tools is top priority, therefore Erin spends time researching the latest and most successful tools to share with her students. She attends conferences for Closing the Gap and ATIA. As well as participated as a presenter at Technology for Specific Learning Disabilities Conference, presenting insight and tips on Google KEEP. As an educator, she believes in utilizing the best tools for her students, and is passionate about accessibility for all students, no matter what barrier is in front of them.
